FROM THE SECRETARY

Hi Everyone!

It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is past and Christmas is coming very soon!  I hope you all had a good holiday with family and lots of food!

I see so many have Christmas lights and decorations up and I just wonder if this has become more important than the real reason for this season of the year!

I would like to spotlight our Savior -- Jesus Christ – this month.  It is His birth we should celebrate.  We live in a country where we can worship as we want and with all the problems of our world, that is the most important of all.  I hope we all remember to slow down and give our gifts of time, love and reverence to the One who was born in a manger to a Virgin.  This is a wonderful miracle.  As wise men and shepherds brought their gifts to this Baby Jesus so many years ago, let’s just take time to bring Him our gifts of Love, Joy and our desire for peace – not only in the world, but in our hearts.  We have so many who have lost loved ones this year or whose health is bad.  I pray God will be close and comfort you.  May God, through faith in His Son, Jesus, give you Joy and Peace, is my prayer for all of you this Blessed Christmas, and may you have a very healthy and prosperous New Year.

Let’s remember Allen and Kathryn Estep in our prayers.  Allen is having tests run and some things don’t look good.  We all love you both and pray God will heal you Allen and give you peace.

Let’s also remember Marie Hight and Mary Neal who lost their husbands and also June Calvert.  Gladys Griffith seems to be doing much better and wish Gladys and David a very Happy Birthday – just a little late.  Also Bill and Katherine Collins.  Katherine is doing much better, but Bill is still having trouble with his ears, he just doesn’t slow down much!  He and Clarence Ables are everywhere!

I hear wedding bells have been ringing for Ruby Wheeler and Jerry Van Winkle.  I haven’t seen them, but I pray God’s richest blessings on them.  Just don’t forget us Ruby!!

You all let me know if you have any news, ok?

God Bless You All,

Linda

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

 THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

(ARKANSAS VERSION)

'Taw’s the night before Christmas, and all through the shack;

Not a darn thing was stirring, from the front to the back.

The kids were in bed,-we had nine at the time,

The wife in her curlers was looking real fine.

A cold wind was blowin', up the holler it moaned;

The ten dogs on the porch, they howled and they groaned.

The boys were all dreamin' of weapons and guns,

For killing God's creatures, there's no better fun.

The girls in their feminine dreams were attuned,

To getting those gallons of Walmart perfume.

The wife wanted jewelry, like rings with big rocks,

I just wanted my Chevy down off the blocks.

Then out in the yard, such a noise did commence,

Like something was caught in our new 'bob war" fence.

I ran to the window, and saw pretty quick,

The man making that racket was Good Ol' St. Nick.

You may think of Santa in your mind's eye,

Dressed in a red and white suit, but I've got a surprise.

The old boy's an Arkie, from up near Mt. Gaylor,

He married his cousin, and they live in a trailer.

On Christmas of course, a sleigh for his rig,

He hooks the thing up to eight razorback pigs.

He climbed on the roof, with his bag full of goodies,

He backed down the chimney, all dirty and sooty.

Fat legs in his britches, chubby hands in his mittens,

I must admit from the back he looked like Bill Clinton.

He turned to the tree, his eyes all aglow,

He's an Arkansas boy from his head to his toe.

His neck was a red one, his shirt said "Lite Beer",

he had no red hat on; his cap read "John Deere".

He left all the presents, with an air of delight,

Then it was back up the chimney and into the night.

He ran into the yard, threw his bag in the sleigh,

Then he yelled at the dogs, "Get the heck out of the way".

I ran out to ask him why he brought such good cheer,

But instead he just asked me, "Did you get you a deer?"

Then I heard him exclaim as those pigs took flight,

"Merry Christmas to all…I need a Bud Lite".

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all, Lets make 2007 even better than 2006.

I hope to be able to attend more of the meetings and functions especially after April 1; I am planning that as my retirement date.

Ron
