Introduction

 

 

Fiddler's Shuffle -- Monday and Tuesday

Levels:
A -- Beginners
B -- Intermediates all ages
C -- Lower strings -- viola, cello, bass
D -- Intermediate classical ages 8 to 19
E -- Intermediate classical ages 20 and up
F -- Advanced ages 8 to 14
G -- Advanced ages 15 to 19
H -- Advanced ages 20 and up
I -- Advanced professional ages 13 to 29
J -- Advanced professional ages 30 and up

Level Definitions:

Beginner -- Beginning fiddler, any age, with les than 2 years of fiddling.  Needs slower instruction and smaller classes.

Intermediate -- At least 2 years of instruction.  Know less than 20 fiddle tunes, can learn by ear but have no experience with improvisation.

Intermediate classical -- Have had classical instruction but very little fiddle instruction.  Have not had much experience learning by ear or improvising.  Do not know many fiddle tunes.

Advanced -- Have more than 3 years of fiddling or violin instruction.  Know at least 20 fiddle tunes.  Learn quickly by ear and can improvise within tunes.

Advanced professional -- Many years of experience and perform regularly or teach.

11:45 - 12:45 Lunch
1 - 4:30 Fiddler's Shuffle
5 - 6 Dinner
6:30 Concert

Instructors in the Fiddler's Shuffle were as follows, with each instructor(s) seeing each group only once over the two days:

Anger, Eggleston
Burr, Calin -- The last two periods of each day of the Fiddler's Shuffle saw the basses, which rotated with the lower strings for the rest of each day.

9 - 11 Instruction
11:15 Wednesday conference photo

3:15 - 4:45 Instruction
5 - 6 Supper
Concert

Beginner -- Separated into adults and youngsters, rotated between Allen and Harley every session.  Campbell gave private lessons to beginners on Wednesday and Thursday, and to beginners and intermediates on Friday.  Phillips also taught beginners on Friday.

Intermediate -- Choice between Phillips/Kittel (except on Friday when Phillips had beginners), B. Hass, and Clarridges.  Clarridges alternated between themselves given private instruction and group lessons.

Jazz Ensemble -- Ligon every session

Viola -- Cook, Wallace every session

Cello -- Eggleston, N. Haas, Bratt every session

Bass -- Burr, Calin every session

Back-up Guitar -- Holzen, beginning from 1 - 3 all three days; intermediate to advanced 3:15 - 4:45 all three days

High intermediate to advanced, choice between:
Wednesday 9-11 Florido, Elmore, Gao, Strom, Anger/Watkins; 1-3 O'Connor, Caswell, Sung/Cho, Anastasio, Richards/Manjunath; 3:15-4:45 MacMaster, Wood, Apap, Glaser/Frigo, Cook

Thursday 9 - 11 Richards/Manjunath, Wood, Caswell, Apap, Florido; 1-3 O'Connor, Elmore, Strom, Sung/Cho, Glaser/Frigo; 3:15 - 4:45 Anger/Watkins, Gao, Cook, Anastasio, MacMaster

Friday 9 - 11 MacMaster, Sung/Cho, Strom, Glaser/Frigo, Anastasio; 1 - 3 O'Connor, Elmore, Florido, Richards/Manjunath, Anger; 3:15 - 4:15 Apap, Wood, Gao, Caswell
